Watch the last minutes of your blink cadence as a quiet line.

Stays beside the work. Counts only while you are at the screen.

Why it exists

Your eyes work hard for you. Screens make them work worse.

During focused computer use, people blink far less often than they do in conversation. That drop is a well-known driver of digital eye strain: dryness, grit, fatigue, and blurred vision.

The problem is not that you “forget to care.” Attention narrows, the face stills, and blinking becomes sparse and uneven — and you rarely notice until the eyes already hurt.

What rhythm means

Rate and regularity, together.

Rate answers how often. Regularity answers how steady. Either one alone is incomplete: enough blinks can still arrive in bursts and droughts, and a perfectly even but very slow pattern still leaves the surface under-refreshed.

EyeRhythm folds both into the Ocular Rhythm Index — a 0–100 glance for “is my blink cadence supporting me right now?” A healthy desk cadence is often around 15–20 blinks per minute.

The companion

It watches, scores, and, if you ask, gently nudges.

Live rate, regularity, and ORI on a compact window. Optional alert if ORI stays low for a meaningful stretch — not a single bad second. Optional beep on each counted blink. Practice is a two-minute full-screen coach so the habit is easier to feel, not only to measure.

It is a wellness companion, not a medical device. Persistent discomfort or a change in vision belongs with a licensed eye-care professional.

A companion, not another dashboard.

Live cadence

Rate, regularity, and ORI on a compact dashboard, plus screen time and a daily average.

Alert, if you ask

Optional sound if ORI stays low for a meaningful stretch — not a single bad second.

Beep on each blink

A tighter feedback loop. Optional click on every counted blink.

Practice

A countdown, then a guided two-minute session that paces blinks so the habit is easier to feel.

Dockable GUI

Open Settings and Reports beside the companion. Dock it when you want to tune the app to how you work, then undock to keep the window small.

Built for the desk

A small window, optionally always on top. Camera preview stays put-away unless you open it.

This work, not the room

Looking clearly away is treated as off-screen, so the score is about this stretch of work.

Fully offline

Meant to sit next to your work, not on someone else’s server.

  • No internet for normal use. No account, no cloud, no analytics.
  • Camera frames never leave the machine. They are processed here, in real time. Video is not recorded for upload, not stored as a film of your face, and not shared.
  • What is kept locally, if anything, is yours: today’s totals, preferences, optional on-device history.
  • Share the Mac app or the Windows zip. There is no phone home.

About

Built from a real pain, not a trend.

The person who made EyeRhythm spent two decades as a software developer. Long days in front of screens added up. After years of that work, the eyes were dry, red, and often in real pain.

With newer tools, it became possible to build a small companion that stays on this computer. He has been using it himself for the last two months, and the change has been clear enough to share.

The aim is simple: technology that is small, useful, and aimed at a real problem — healthy blink rhythm during screen work — without another loud app in the way.

If you try it, we would be glad for honest feedback. That is how this mission stays reliable, and quiet.
